Old Business

  • We do not have any CEP Student Representatives, Graduate and Undergraduate currently. Please send any recommendations that you have at this time of students that would be willing to serve.

New Business

  • There are several updates to the NC policy that affect Educator Preparation. While no Intern II students were affected by Hurricane Helene, several Intern I students were impacted. It has been requested that we offer alternative assignments for these students until they are able to return to school.
  • Certain candidates in the Western counties participating in the Residency program may face challenges in completing the edTPA. While there will not be an official exception or waiver process, it is important to assist these candidates in adhering to the incomplete guidelines. Should there be a situation where they are unable to fulfill the edTPA requirements this semester, we can work with Rachel Bass in the Office of Assessment and explore alternative dates for the following semester.
  • Legislation introduced for disaster relief did not include provisions for students in Residency License Year 3 who may be unable to complete their coursework on schedule. While there is a process in place to address hardships related to license extensions, we will contact the Department of Public Instruction for additional guidance.
  • The NC State Board of Education has reached a consensus that the Residency GPA for admission will be determined using 18 hours of content coursework. We will maintain our existing admissions process for Residency for the fall 2025 term, commencing in December, as any regulatory changes implemented by the state are unlikely to take effect until the following summer. We will collaborate with program areas to identify what constitutes content coursework.
  • New state requirement for principal preparation that will be fully scored by Pearson that will go into effect for MSA programs that says for all students admitted after August 31st will have to do this portfolio.
  • The Praxis Core testing was not included in the agenda of the most recent NC State Board meeting; however, it is anticipated that this matter will be discussed in the forthcoming meeting scheduled for November.
  • The regulations pertaining to Educator Preparation Programs have been updated to include precise language regarding mathematics requirements, and an evaluation of the current practices at the EPP level will be conducted.
