Council for Teacher Education
The fifth meeting of the Council for Teacher Education for the 2009-2010 academic year was held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 3:15 p.m. in Speight 312. Members present: Rick Barnes, Michael Bossé, Carol Brown, Michael Brown, Chris Capehart, John Carlson, Joe Ciechalski, Vivian Covington (Chair), Lana Kay Dotson, Dana Espinosa, Johna Faulconer, David Gabbard, Nicole Griffin, Bill Grobe, Linda High, Laura King, Adam Leggett, Diana Lys, Betty Peel, Marcela Ruiz- Funes, Karli Ruscoe, Jane Teleki, Ivan Wallace, Sarah Williams, Barbara Woods and visitor-Crystal Jones. Absent were Cynthia Bickley-Green, Brenda Eastman, LCSN representative, Sharon Schleigh, and Christine Shea.
Order of Business
The approval of minutes and announcements were delayed so that Diana Lys could give the Assessment Update and conduct an orientation of TaskStream (TS) via WebEx with Jose Romero, presenter. Mentoring services and support services are available for TS. A key code was given to access TS for viewing and the following items were demonstrated. The organizational structure of the Directed Response Folio (DRF) template and features available; customizable directions, evaluation methods, and forms were shown. A demo of the student functions was presented, including adding work, discussing sharing work offline and publishing to the web and ability to see scores. A demo of the faculty role was demonstrated including evaluating work, accessing progress reports and printing evaluation grid. The type of reports available; Performance by DRF Category (showing score detail, revision history and report enhancements); Rubric Criteria (showing report functions), and Form Report (Dispositions A). In the DRF, evidences are set up under each program. Evidences 1-7 are program based information. Evidence 3 pertains to all majors, which is the same across all program areas. Evidences 8- 10 are administrative forms. File size may be an issue to some program areas. This program is not designed to reduce workload, but to have the best data available. The cost of the program for students, $42/59 for 1 or 2 years is considered a text book and will be covered under financial aid and sold through Dowdy Bookstore. TaskStream will be reviewed at the March Clinical Teacher Conference and future training will be available for faculty and students. TaskStream will also be used for the MAEd, which has only four evidences.
Dr. Lys continued reporting on assessment and Ad Hoc Committee issues. Individuals desiring to be on the Conceptual Framework Ad Hoc Committee will be contacted and a meeting set up. Updates were sent out to the MAEd Revisioning Ad Hoc committee concerning a webinar. A MAEd Coordinator’s meeting will be held towards the end of the month.

Agenda II – Announcements
Vivian Covington, chair, made the following announcements.
A mandatory Education Career Fair will be held February 23, 2010 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Greenville Convention Center.
The Mary Lois Staton Reading/Language Arts Conference will be held February 16, 2010 from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Murphy Center. Interns not attending are expected to remain at their internship site.
There are two vacancies in Clinical Experiences. Nancy Houston passed away December 31, 2009 and Kimberly Williamson has taken a position at Pitt Community College.

Agenda IV – Old Business
Today’s refresher is on the implications of failing prerequisite courses and/or GPA falling below 2.5 in Junior II and Senior I.
Students receiving D, F, I or Not Recorded (NR) grades in methods courses are checked at the end of each semester. Students and advisors are notified of existing problems. In some cases students are not allowed to enter Senior I or continue on to Senior II. Students in Upper Division, who fall below the required 2.5 GPA, are removed from Upper Division and in some cases Upper Division courses. In the fall, an instructor left the university and all students received grades of NR in one section of EDTC 4001. These students were not penalized in this situation. January 15, 2010 is the last day to add classes.

Policy – David Gabbard is now chairing the Policy Committee and reported that the policy on felons is moving forward.
Three additional meetings remain for the calendar year February 8, March 15 and April 12.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m. The next meeting will be February 8, 2010.
