The Council for Educator Preparation meeting for November was held Monday, November 11, 2024, via Teams at 3:15pm

Approval of Minutes from October 14, 2024, Meeting
A motion was made by Dr. Bethann Cole and seconded by Robert Quinn to approve the minutes from October 14, 2024. The minutes were approved.

Standing Update from the Office of Educator Preparation
Dr. Holly Fales, Assistant Dean, reported the following:
- Dr. Fales provided a personnel update for the Office of Educator Preparation. The Scholarship and Donor Relations Coordinator and Clinical Experience Coordinator positions are being filled with estimated start dates of December 2nd.
- The search for an Administrative Associate for Clinical Experiences and Alternative Licensure closes today at 5pm.
- We are presently awaiting a response regarding the timeline for initiating the recruitment process for the 2nd Clinical Experience Coordinator position.
Standing Update from the Office of Assessment, Data Management, Digital Learning
Sarah Sconyers, Director, reported the following:
- OADD has been investigating potential options for students related to LMS preparation. These include:
- Canvas Sandboxes are proposed for undergraduate students enrolled in designated courses. The ITCS department requires a comprehensive list of these courses along with an estimated number of student users to assess the feasibility of this initiative.
- Non-SIS Canvas courses will allow instructors to add students as “Teachers” for the purpose of honing specific skills. Each instructor will need to request and manage these courses individually.
- Access to Infinite Campus for the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) is being explored. Infinite Campus is a state-adopted platform that integrates functionalities such as a gradebook and learning management system (LMS) alongside other applications. Districts are at various stages of implementation, with some currently piloting the LMS. I have reached out to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) regarding the potential for EPP access to the North Carolina Infinite Campus system.
- Prior to committing time and resources to secure access, we wish to assess the degree of interest among programs. We kindly request that programs reflect on the following two questions before we proceed further:
- Should we succeed in obtaining student-level access, would there be an interest in purposefully integrating LMS preparation into the curriculum?
- If affirmative, in which specific courses would this preparation be incorporated?
- Other OADD Reminders
- Have there been any changes to the Program Area Coordinator or Advisor positions within your department? If so, kindly inform us so that we can update accounts and user privileges in our systems.
- Additionally, please remind faculty members in your areas that evaluations for Taskstream assignments must be completed by the end of the semester.
- The EPP Exit Surveys for both graduate and undergraduate students will be launched on November 25th and will remain accessible until December 11th. Please encourage your graduating students to take part in this survey.
Standing Update from Office of Clinical Experiences & Alternative Licensure
Dr. Nicole Tripp, Lead Coordinator, reported the following:
- Intern II Licensure Seminar – Potential date, December 12, 2024. Information to go out soon.
- Early Release Date will be November 26, 2024.
- The meeting for University Supervisors is scheduled for January 14, 2025, at the Willis Building. The time has yet to be determined.
- University Supervisors will be added to Sonia once all dispositions are collected for the semester.
- The first round of internship applications was received on November 4th, with requests being dispatched the following day, November 5th. 29 applications were received.
- The deadline for the second round of internship applications is set for January 8, 2025, by 5:00pm.
- A draft of the Intern II calendar is currently available. We anticipate finalizing it soon to distribute the electronic packet of materials to the University Supervisors and Intern II candidates. Once completed, it will be uploaded to the US Canvas module.
- The development of the travel protocol for University Supervisors for the spring semester is still in progress. This is partially contingent upon the availability of administrative support within Clinical Experiences and the anticipated timeline for onboarding a new Administrative Associate. Currently, we have transitioned to a system where University Supervisors are entering their own mileage in Chrome River for the fall semester.
Old Business
- Jim Kuras provided an update on the EPP Dispositions Assessment for undergraduate programs. A list of compliance results for dispositions was emailed to the Disposition Coordinators last week for the academic year 2023-2024. The compliance rate for the Early Experience courses stood at 86%, while the compliance rate for the midpoint assessment stood at 31%.
- An invitation has been extended to the Disposition Coordinators for a meeting on December 3, 2025, to address current issues and strategize for future actions.
New Business
- Dr. Soulen inquired whether it would be feasible to assess the committee structure with the aim of incorporating an additional member to the CEP Curriculum Committee to help manage the workload associated with reviewing packages throughout the year.
- Dr. Fales proposed that the Policy committee engage in a brief discussion concerning the review of the bylaws and committee membership. Additionally, she suggested the possibility of having another CEP representative who might be interested in volunteering to assist the Curriculum Committee in reviewing packages during the January-February timeline. Interested volunteers should send emails to Dr. Fales and Dr. Soulen.
- Dr. Walcott proposed the committee review what specific aspects are expected to focus on for the curriculum committee. Is the requirement to examine each individual learning objective or should the primary role be to review the justification and ensure that everything is satisfactory for the teacher?

- Literacy Studies, English & History Education, Graduate – Presented by Marjorie Rowe
- Summary: Literacy Studies READ program faculty proposed the following curricular changes to the MAEd in Reading/Literacy degree. (1) updating two courses 6104 and 6106 to provide more clinical skills development for students including updating the course objectives and topics in READ 6104 and READ 6106 to accurately reflect the course content; and (2) adding a practicum designation and revising the READ 6104 course description.

Bethann Cole motioned to approve the package. Jeff Pizzutilla seconded. The committee voted unanimously to accept the proposed changes pending suggested edits.
- Elementary & Middle Grade Education, Undergraduate – Presented by Kristen Gregory
- Summary: The Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education faculty proposed to discontinue the Psychology, BA / Elementary Education, MAT accelerated pathway. This pathway has been inactive for years.

No concerns were noted. Bethann Cole motioned to approve the package. Jeff Pizzutilla seconded. The committee voted unanimously to accept the proposed changes.
- Kinesiology, Undergraduate – Presented by Mike Dawson
