Guille Pachelo: La técnica de paste-up

(in English)

Guille Pachelo is a street artist who is popularly known in Buenos Aires. Born and raised in the city, Pachelo grew up surrounded by art, as his mother was a painter, and his brother studied art at the university. He is famous for his street art characters wearing caps that have positive messages. A common word that he can find in his messages is “love.” In his book, “With love you get there,” Pachelo describes how he tries to express the limited possibilities of love. He illustrates not only the love of romantic partners but also the love that exists between friends, siblings, and children and their parents. His art explores the idea that love can “win over hate” (Pachelo 2021, p.44). Through his art, he conveys messages of encouragement and positivity to counter the messages of hate and separation in the social and political environments of Buenos Aires. Pachelo, and many other artists in Buenos Aires, use the paste-up technique to share his street art through the streets of the city. It is an efficient and fast technique that allows artists to create their works on paper in workshops, which can then be pasted on multiple surfaces on the streets. Also, it is a technique that is ephemeral, as the paper deteriorates due to adverse weather conditions, and is covered by other artists. This technique is compatible with the ever-changing street art scene in Buenos Aires.
