RESEARCH THROUGH DIFFERENT LENS

Transmedia and Digital Humanities Research Lens

One way in which transmedia can enhance foreign language learning is by exposing learners to authentic and diverse language use. Traditionally, language learners have relied on textbooks, lectures, and grammar exercises to acquire a foreign language, which often provides limited and artificial exposure to the language. By contrast, transmedia stories can immerse learners in realistic and engaging language use, allowing them to encounter and learn from various native speakers, contexts, and registers. For instance, a transmedia project that tells the story of a multilingual character navigating different cultures and languages could expose learners to different accents, dialects, idioms, and cultural norms, helping them develop their linguistic and cultural competence.
