The East Carolina University Community Archives Lab (ECAL) lives at Ragsdale 128, 1000 5th Street, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.

ECAL Mission
The ECAL reflects the ECU Master of Library Science Program‘s deep commitment to inclusive, participatory archival practices that empower both students and community partners to preserve, steward, and interpret North Carolina region’s cultural heritage resources through collaborative, statewide partnerships.

ECAL Vision
The ECAL envisions a dynamic, collaborative space where ECU’s library science students gain hands-on experience in ethical, community-focused archival work that can lead to new knowledge and innovations supporting a vibrant future for Eastern North Carolina and beyond.

The grand opening celebration of the ECAL was a huge success, featuring amazing speakers and over 50 attendees, including our community partners and library science students who are working as interns in community-based archives throughout the state. Dr. Tyler Youngman joins Drs. Vanessas Irvin and Reyes of the FOCAS: ECU team as a co-Principal Investigator. His role will include working with ECAL’s Lab Assistant, Ms. Zoë Mitchell, and the MLS Interns.
