FOCAS: ECU ECAL Lab

Welcome to the East Carolina University Community Archives Lab-Lab (ECAL). The ECAL Lab offers Master of Library Science (MLS) students at ECU opportunities to engage with community archives curricula, collaborate on community-based research, and develop digital tools that support archival practices. Through hands-on experience with our statewide community archives partners, MLS students enrolled in the Archives and Cultural Heritage Informatics concentration of the MLS Program gain practical insight into cultural heritage informatics and digital pedagogy. This collaborative, project-based environment enhances students’ academic growth and prepares them for professional roles in the evolving landscape of archival studies and community engagement.

The ECAL Lab is located at Ragsdale Hall, Room 128, 1000 5th Street, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.

ECAL will be celebrating its Grand Opening on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm, Eastern time.
