INTRO

Hi everyone!

I am a MBA student here at ECU and currently pursuing a Health Care Administration certificate. I earned my undergrad in Speech and Hearing Sciences at ECU as well and later hope to own a speech therapy clinic. Some background information on me, I am from a small town called Franklinton, North Carolina. It is just north of Raleigh and I have lived there my whole life other than Greenville. I am one of 3 siblings, I have an older brother that is ten years older than me and he earned his RN. My little sister is nine years apart from me and is about to start her first year of high school. Some of my favorite hobbies is hiking and skiing! I am going this weekend to Beech mountain for the first time in a while and I’m super excited to ski after a while.

I am very motivated and intrigued when it comes to healthcare but I am excited to learn more about how the health care system works on business aspects. I am looking forward to a great semester with you all!

  1. Hi Ms. Barham,
Thanks for your intro message and welcome to COHE 6000. Since healthcare is a business (it is after all 1/6 of our American economy) the goal should be to utilize the best business practices to turn our health care system into a lean mean (fighting?) machine and cut out the waste so that more resources can be used to deliver high quality care to all at a reasonable cost. Who knows? Perhaps injecting more transparency around prices (charges) can help drive down spiraling costs of care. Hopefully, more of the business administration folks can suggest measures to get us there. The Harvard Business Review blog assignment might shed some light on this area. Looking forward to reading your contributions on the COHE 6000 blog.
