Ceili Wallace- Introduction

Hi,

My name is Ceili (Kaylee) Wallace and this is my first semester. I am from Plymouth, MA and I work on Cape Cod. I work in Human Resources for a resort full time and then I am a part time fitness instructor at the Y down the street from my house. I am certified to teach Balletone and I am licensed as a Zumba instructor. If I’m not working, I am at the gym. I also volunteer with SkillsUSA Massachusetts as an alumni with the position of Marketing and Membership focusing on new graduates. I also am an Event Manager for two of the contests at our State Leadership Conference. I am working towards my MBA and a certificate in Healthcare Management. I graduated from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH with my BS in Business Administration and a minor in Health.

Before I got into Human Resources I was a Certified Nursing Assistant for five years, working in mainly assisted livings in the memory care unit. I went to a vocational technical school where I was able to gain my license when I was a junior in high school. My passion is to work with individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s. My goal is to get back into healthcare and eventually own a memory care facility.

  1. Hi Ms. Wallace,
Thanks for your intro message and welcome to the course. I believe your perspective and experience in the front lines of LTC can inform our understanding of what the health care delivery system is and is not doing in caring for the needs of our older citizens. Estimates are that we can expect a dramatic increase of dementia and Alzheimers disease patients as more and more baby boomers are entering the 65 and over age cohort.

Check out this article in this week’s NY Times about the use of virtual reality to stimulate past memories in Alz patients and improve their well being by sparking their return to socialization out of isolation and depression.

Looking forward to your contributions to the course blog.
