Book of the Month!

We hope your child received Beatrix Potter’s century-old classic, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, this month!

This book tells the tale of mischievous Peter Rabbit’s adventures in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden. Even though Mrs. Rabbit tells her children not to enter the garden, Peter cannot resist seeing what’s waiting inside.

Starting Up: Look at the cover with your child. Ask your child how rabbits move and if they can act it out. Hop around together before you start reading.

While Reading: As you read, give each character a different voice. Mrs. Rabbit might sound sweet and motherly, while Mr. McGregor sounds gruff and frightening.

If there are any words that are new to your child, like accident or mischief, take time to explain them to your child.

After Reading: While food shopping, show your child vegetables like the ones in the story. Ask, “what kind of vegetables do you like to eat?” and “what kind of vegetables did Peter see in the garden?”
