Book of the Month!

We hope your child received “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle this month!

This classic children’s book has been around for 50 years and to celebrate, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has included it in their book list for this year. Read this story with your child and have them follow along as the caterpillar eats his way through the book! Eventually he emerges as a beautiful butterfly!

Starting Up: Talk about different kinds of food and what your child likes to eat when they’re hungry. Try having your child count the caterpillar’s eyes, legs, or body parts on the front cover.

Reading the Story: Allow your child to touch the holes in the book, count them, look through to the next page, or turn them. Comment on how the caterpillar is getting larger as the story goes on.

After the Story: Ask you child questions about the story. Have you seen a butterfly? How did it make you feel? Why do you think the caterpillar got a stomachache? What changed about the caterpillar when he became a butterfly?
