Book of the Month

Did your child receive “Violet the Pilot” by Steve Breen this month?

We hope your child is excited to read this story about a young girl who follows her dreams. Violet is teased by the kids at school, but they have no idea what she’s capable of. Read the story to found out how Violet becomes a hero!

For the first time reading this book, curl up with your child and enjoy the story together. For the next readings, try some of these activities:

Starting up: Talk about what makes the airplane on the front cover unique! Point out the rhyme in the title and substitute Violet’s name with the name of your child. Pair their name with a real or silly word that rhymes with it.

Reading: Just like Violet uses her creativity to make her flying machines, have your child come up with an idea for a new machine.

After reading: Gather items like egg cartons, straws, and bottles to build a pretend machine with your child. Watch planes in the sky or videos of an air show together!

Don’t forget…have fun and enjoy this time with you child!
