Culture is Everything

The culture of book reading is the prevalence and prominence of book reading within families. This culture is extremely valuable and can be practiced regardless of what other cultural groups a family may belong to.

Children learn to fit into the culture into which they are born. They do this by observing and copying what their older family members do and do not do. If children see their parents reading, they are experiencing a culture that sets them up to read too.

It is important that children are taught to comfortably and joyfully participate in a culture of book reading if they are going to be successful in school and beyond.
