Self-Critiquing

This Self-Assessment enables students to write and reflect for a significant purpose. As future educational professionals, students are asked to watch videos crafted of career status teaching professionals and describe high quality teaching practices to further their understanding how to objectively observe teaching practices. Next, students reflect on their observations, assessing themselves through self-critiquing and reflection. The use of self-assessment is essential in the field of education and effective for preservice teachers to learn self-regulation which aids in them being more realistic in the outcomes of their course and practical work (Brown & Harris, 2013). When assessing and evaluating student writing, teachers can listen to student voices and reflections while promoting student agency and empowerment.
