The East Carolina University Mathematics and Science Education Noyce Scholars Program recruits strong mathematics and science students into mathematics or science teaching. It seeks to do this by providing substantial financial support to students who meet the qualifications of the program. Noyce Scholars receive their education, licensure, and agree to teach mathematics or science in a high-need school or district (two years teaching for each year of funding).
For undergraduate students, the ECU Noyce Scholars Program provides $14,000 per year for juniors and seniors pursuing a major in mathematics or science AND teacher licensure.
Benefits
- Award of $14,000 per year for up to two years for undergraduate juniors and seniors pursuing a major in mathematics, science, or engineering AND teaching licensure. (Rising seniors may apply for one year of funding.)
- Outstanding preparation through coursework, clinical experiences, and microcredentials designed to equip new teachers with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to educate all math and science secondary students.
- High quality advising by ECU faculty with knowledge and experience in the field of study.
- Individualized plan of study with ongoing advising (from both the content and specialized education area) and assistance.
- Referral support to explore employment opportunities.
- Two-year mentoring support upon entering teaching that complements induction programs offered by local school districts. The mentoring program will allow Noyce faculty to support you as well as gain valuable information about the needs of initially-licensed teachers.
