Automatic segmentation of cardiac structures for breast cancer radiotherapy

The adventitious irradiation of cardiac substructures during radiation therapy can lead to a variety of cardiac complications including pericarditis, myocardial fibrosis, and coronary artery disease. However, cardiac substructures are not routinely delineated due to limited image quality of treatment planning CTs and time constraints. The purpose of the current project was to develop an automatic segmentation method for performing cardiac substructure dose calculations on a large number of patients as needed for epidemiological studies or clinical trials. read more…

Tumor Movement and Fiducial Movement in 4D CT for Cyberknife Treatment for Lung Cancer Patients

The treatment for lung cancer using Cyberknife often requires the fiducial markers implanted in the patient’s lung to move with the patient’s breathing. The purpose of this study is to observe whether the patient’s tumor also moves alongside with the fiducials and evaluate if the treatment is effective with proper margins. read more…

Fast transit portal dosimetry using aSi-based electronic portal imaging device and Monte Carlo method

As a mechanism of external radiation delivery has been advanced by implementation of sophisticated techniques, such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) or volumetric intensity modulated arc therapy (VMAT), verification of delivered dose into a patient has been gaining more importance. read more…
