James Madison is considered one of the first political scientists due to the fact that he consulted and studied numerous classic texts about politics and government before arriving in Philadelphia for the Constitutional Convention. Because of this he was by far the most prepared at the Convention and had a lasting impact on the shape of the final product. His ideas on government and rights have had a lasting impact on American political thought.
