Kedrik Eddlemon – The Indian Masula

Fig 1. Indian Masula

Recorded in ECU Eller house

The Indian small watercraft was located in the Eller house, it was crafted in India. From the build and design we can tell it was handmade and the price tag was around 20 dollars. It’s very symmetrical in terms of design. There are designs built into the small watercraft, right below the gunnel that runs along the edge of the top and a flower design with some intrinsic lines flowing off to the side.

History

Minatare works are a common trend in many cultures. They help establish  individual art and culture along these hand crafted miniatures. In India the Masula was used in the southern regions of India and it’s use changed as times went. The name Masula does not truly represent all the variations of this small watercraft. Even the one modeled here does not represent the current trend, nor the past. It all depended on the region the Masula came from and why it was created.
