African Dugout Canoes

by Stephanie Smith

Historical Context

Narrow Flat bottom canoes come from Africa. They are made from hollowed-out logs of large trees. They are long double-ended boats that riders either sit on top of or squeeze into the narrow opening.

Description:

The model of boat that I chose was a double-ended canoe. Or a dugout canoe used in Africa. There is no clear bow or stern for its purpose was to be able to use both sides. The boat’s gunners are uneven and irregular. The boat contains a flat bottom and high sides. The boat itself is not uniform and is simple in design. It also contains a medium chine
