ROTC – Leadership and Performance Psychology in Military Settings

The aim of this research is to understand the behaviors and process of military leadership with a focus on different performance psychology concepts. This aim supports ROTC’s purpose to prepare future military leaders and current needs identified by the Army Research Institute of Behavioral & Social Sciences to understand essential behaviors and processes of influence. By identifying leadership behaviors that are effective in instilling different performance psychology concepts, there is an opportunity to improve current cadets’ leadership and influence on their followers when commissioned as an officer. These benefits translate into a more effective use of the military’s time, money, and training resources because the skills can be put into effect immediately. Finally, the findings of this study support influence strategies for leaders at all levels, an aspect needed for the continued success of our military.
