What is this CURE about:

This course provides upper-level Biology students an immersive research experience in which to gain practical skills in genetics and molecular cell biology.

One Response

  1. Students in Dr. Elizabeth Ables’ applied molecular cell biology have taken their Drosophila knowledge and are applying it to projects! Individual groups are investigating the gene ftz-f1 in the role of Drosophila melanogaster’s germ-line. Previous research suggests that conditional knockdown of ftz-f1 in the female reproductive system leads to a variety of phenotypes such as cell death, encapsulation of the oocyte, and reduction of germ-line stem cells. Students are working to identify how and why this takes place by using genetic tools to manipulate gene expression and immunohistochemitrsty. It’s looking like an awesome semester!
