Evaluation and Planning – Tammy Lee, chair reported that the E&P Ad Hoc Committees met and drafted Evidences 3, 5 and 6. Sarah Williams reported on Evidences 3, Instructional Unit and 5, Impact on Student Learning. Work submitted for the Instructional Unit and Impact on Student Learning will depict the student’s ability to integrate an understanding of learners, the learning environment, and the curriculum expectations to plan and implement a unit of instruction grounded in this understanding as well as in research-verified practices. The unit developed and implemented for this project will satisfy expectations for both Evidence 3 and Evidence 5, as the requirements for these pieces of evidence are interwoven. Tammy Lee reported on Evidence 6, Leadership. In Senior I, students will demonstrate proficiency by collaborating with their clinical teacher and school principal to access and review the school improvement plan. They will identify elements of school improvement plans in the School Based Management and Accountability Procedures Manual and review the characteristics of their school’s plan. They will access two data sources (School Report Card and Working Conditions Survey) and identify areas of need for their school and their specialty area. The candidates will then identify activities for professional development and growth based on the identified needs. Please share the more detailed documentation with faculty in your program area and contact Sarah Williams at williamssar@ecu.edu with any feedback or questions on Evidences 3 and 5 and Tammy Lee, leeta@ecu.edu, for Evidence 6. Patricia Clark will be joining the Ad-Hoc Committee for Evidences 3 and 5.
Admission & Retention – No Report
Policy – Michael Bossé reported he and the committee had received a lot of responses on the proposal to request an exception to the Professional Core Curriculum, which resulted in significant changes. Rick Barnes suggested that a revised document necessitated a change in the by-laws. A draft will be sent to each member prior to the April meeting and hopefully the proposal for exceptions to the core will be voted on at the April meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m. The next meeting will be April 13, 2009 in Speight 312.
Respectfully submitted,
Sherry S. Tripp
