Undergraduate and graduate Environmental Health (EH) students are assisting this summer in conducting a mosquito field research project led by Dr. Stephanie Richards as the principal investigator. On May 16, 2016, the research team started setting carbon dioxide-baited CDC light traps to collect host-seeking mosquitoes, and ovitraps to monitor container-ovipositing mosquitoes like Aedes albopictus. The research project, a collaboration between the ECU Environmental Health Sciences program, Bayer Crop Science, and The Mosquito Authority will be conducted May to November 2016 to compare the effectiveness of various barrier sprays for mosquito population control in a suburban neighborhood.
