Ask Miss Liza: Flood Waters… Be Careful!

Dear Miss Liza,

I saw a few kids in the neighborhood playing in the “flood waters”.  It looked like fun… but is it safe?

Ask Miss LizaCameron,

Flood waters can contain potentially dangerous materials, such as fecal matter from overflowing sewage systems, agricultural runoff, and chemicals from industrial areas. Tell the kids NOT to play in flood water areas and make sure they wash their hands frequently (always before meals). Tell ‘em DON’T play with toys that have been contaminated by flood water (unless properly disinfected). Open wounds and rashes exposed to flood waters can become infected, so avoid exposure to flood waters if you have an open wound.   Bye!

Miss Liza
