Dr. Richards posted a Terminix blog this week on the use of technology, particularly drones, in mosquito. Mosquito control personnel ideally find and target mosquito egg-laying sites to kill mosquito larvae before they emerge as adult mosquitoes. However, larval habitats in remote areas may be hard to find, which can hamper mosquito control efforts. Dr. Richards described how high-tech tools are used by mosquito control operators in finding mosquito habitats and insecticide application. These tools include remote sensing from satellite images that are imported into a geographic information system (GIS), and drones for aerial surveillance and insecticide application.
