Victoria Banks (BSEH 2014) is currently working as a Physical Scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at Washington, DC. As part of her responsibilities, Victoria works within the EPA’s Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water to assist regions, states, and tribes with implementing the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations and ensuring safe drinking water. “One of the things I love most about my job is getting to work with and to meet many passionate people with a variety of scientific, engineering, and environmental health backgrounds,” Victoria shared.
While in the ECU BS Environmental Health program, Victoria was selected to participate in the Summer Program in Environmental Health (SUPEH) of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. As an intern, she conducted research for the development of best practices for reducing exposure to the American Dog Tick. Her other responsibilities included program activities and offsite learning experiences, including a waste water treatment facility, a state penitentiary, the Georgia aquarium, Coca-Cola headquarters, a chicken processing facility, Georgia environmental organizations, and a cruise ship inspection in Galveston, TX. When asked how her ECU EH education prepared her for her career, she said, “My experience in the ECU EH program gave me an opportunity to learn about all the areas of environmental health, how they overlap with each other, and how important they are to the health of the public.”
