Dr. Stephanie Richards posted another Terminix blog this week on the global diversity of cockroaches, wherein she described some examples and the distribution of cockroaches that are considered pests (e.g., American cockroach) and those that are not (e.g., Madagascar hissing cockroach). Specifically, Dr. Richards explained how some cockroaches are linked to public health issues, such as allergies, food safety, and mechanical transmission of bacteria (e.g., Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Listeria).
