Dr. Humphrey and Graduate Students Receive NC WRRI Award

Dr. Charles Humphrey, Guy Iverson (PhD candidate) Christa Sanderford (MS Environmental Health student) attended the NC Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI) Conference in Raleigh, NC from March 14-15, 2018.  They received a “Surface Water/Groundwater Implementation, Source Water Protection Award” for their work “Improving Water Quality in the Lick Creek Watershed by Improving the Performance of Septic Systems”.

Dr. Humphrey also gave a presentation titled “Biochemistry of Groundwater Beneath Three Large Onsite Wastewater Systems”.  Guy presented a poster titled “Evaluation of a Bioreactor to Remediate Nutrients in a Septic-dominated Watershed in the North Carolina Piedmont”, and Christa presented a poster titled “Comparison of Stream E. coli and Enterococci Concentrations in Watersheds Served by Different Wastewater Treatment Technologies.” Out of 36 student posters, Guy won 1st place and Christa won 2nd place.
