Dr. Stephanie Richards (ECU EH faculty), with Dr. Brian Byrd (EH faculty from Western Carolina University) and Avian White (ECU EH Research Technician), conducted the 2019 Insecticide Resistance Training Workshop today at East Carolina University to provide training on insecticide resistance testing to mosquito control personnel in North Carolina (NC) and South Carolina (SC). The workshop was funded by the CDC Southeastern Regional Center of Excellence in Vector Borne Diseases. In the workshop, 14 key mosquito control personnel from NC and SC were trained on the principles and procedures of insecticide resistance testing using the CDC Bottle Bioassay procedure. This included oral/visual presentations on methods, as well as hands on implementation of all aspects of the CDC Bottle Bioassay (e.g., how to prepare insecticide stocks and calibrate bottles, coating bottles, carrying out the CDC Bottle Bioassay procedure, data review and analysis).
