Dr. Stephanie Richards received a Flash Grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center for her proposal titled “Development of a Novel Compact Wind Tunnel for Testing Formulated Products against Mosquitoes and Other Insects”. The proposed study was funded for a total of $27,500. Dr. Richards serves as the Principal Investigator (PI), with Dr. Sinan Sousan as the Co-PI. Below is a brief description of the funded study.
Current methods for assessing insecticide formulated products (FP) for mosquito control are cumbersome. Given there is widespread resistance to insecticide classes, new testing is needed. Our solution to the problem is a compact wind tunnel that fits inside a small fume hood. This work will advance the wind tunnel to further market development and could be expanded for use in other arthropods.
