Jude Dilioha, ECU MS Environmental Health (MSEH) student, got accepted for the 2024 Summer NEPHIP/NEHA internship. He will be working at the Chatham County Public Health Department in NC. The primary project he will be involved in would be to complete an analysis of inspection data to measure the occurrence of identified risk factors in food establishments which will assist in the development of a Risk Factor Study report and help develop strategies to address the most common risk factors. The secondary project would be well construction and water quality data mapping and educational outreach. In addition to projects, there may be opportunities to assist and learn about onsite wastewater and well permitting, well water sampling, and food, lodging, and institution inspections.
The National Environmental Public Health Internship Program (NEPHIP) is a 400-hour paid internship opportunity that links environmental health undergraduate and graduate students with funded internship placements at qualified state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) environmental public health agencies. This initiative supports the establishment of qualified applicant pipelines to help meet current and future environmental health professional workforce needs across the nation and encourages environmental health students to consider careers in governmental environmental public health following graduation.
