Dr. Charles Humphrey and ECU environmental health students attended and presented at the Soil Science Society of North Carolina annual meeting held in Raleigh, NC on April 29-30, 2024.
Dr. Humphrey gave the keynote presentation titled “Be a Soil Science Influencer” during the first day of the conference and gave an oral presentation titled “Concentrations of Traditional and Emerging Contaminants in Septic Tanks and Wells” during the second day.
Student poster presentations included:

- Caleb Thompson, BS Environmental Health student – “Preliminary Assessment of Nitrogen Treatment by a Dry Detention Basin and Retrofit Stormwater Wetland”
- Naina Bastakoti, MS Environmental Health student – “Analyses of Septic System Installation Trends in North Carolina“
- Jude Dilioha, MS Environmental Health student – “Preliminary Assessment of Nitrogen Concentrations in Groundwater at a Swine CAFO in Eastern North Carolina”
Congratulations to Jude Dilioha for winning 2nd place in the student poster competition. Jude received a $400 check as his award. The students did a great job representing ECU and the Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Program. Dr. Humphrey was also able to catch up with some alumni of the BS Environmental Health (BSEH) program.
