MS Environmental Health Student as a JRCOSTEP Intern this Summer

MS Environmental Health student, Justin Bunn, is currently working as a JRCOSTEP (Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program) intern with the Indian Health Service (IHS) in Oklahoma this summer 2017.  JRCOSTEP participants work in various exciting Federal agencies and programs as active duty Commissioned Corps officers for the US Public Health Service (USPHS), while receiving pay and allowance.  He assists Environmental Health Officers within the IHS as they try to promote healthy lifestyles and environments for the native populations.  His activities include offering guidance to tribes on food service, community water sources and waste water, and injury prevention (i.e., car seat events, seat belt usage, vectors).  Justin was also involved in public swimming pool inspection, fire and life safety code inspection, testing of playground equipment, and respirator fit testing.  Justin’s duty station is in Pawnee, OK but he is involved in a lot of work outside that area.
