Dear Miss Liza,
We’re having a 4th of July cookout at my Aunt Beulah’s house this weekend. The entire family will be there, including my cousin Donald who ran away from home… for 2 hours when he was 9 years old. He came back home ‘cause he forgot to eat before he left. He’s always been a little strange! Anywho… we’re having hot dogs, hamburgers, fried fish and salad. Everyone is bringing something, including “old weird Donald.” Do you have any advice for a fun and successful family cookout?
Debbie
Dear Debbie,
What a great time for family and friends to get together and celebrate our great country! I have just a few suggestions:
1) Please make sure family members transporting food keep “cold foods cold” using ice or ice packs for meats, sliced fruits, etc.
2) Watch out for “cross-contamination”. Cross-contamination is the transfer of harmful bacteria to food from other foods, cutting boards, utensils, etc. This is especially true when handling raw meat, poultry, and seafood, so keep these foods and their juices away from already cooked or ready-to-eat foods and fresh produce.
3) Wash Yo’ Hands man!!!
Bye!
Miss Liza
P.S. My little brother ran away from home once. He came back to watch his favorite cartoon “Tom & Jerry”… then ran away again!
