Dr. Stephanie Richards (ECU Environmental Health), Dr. Ariane Peralta (ECU Biology), and Dr. Danielle Graham (FSU Biology and Forensic Science) were exhibitors at the 119th Annual North Carolina Academy of Science meeting held at ECU April 14-15, 2023. This meeting involved poster and oral sessions with impressive student presenters from schools across NC. The keynote speaker was ECU alum Jamie Vernon, Executive Director and CEO at Sigma Xi (scientific research honor society). Drs. Richards, Peralta, and Graham were representing ECU graduate programs (Biology, Environmental Health, Health Education and Promotion, Public Health) and FSU collaborators involved in the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation grant program to support the 1) undergraduate summer research immersion experience and 2) graduate scholarship offered at ECU. This multi-year grant promotes and facilitates pathways to graduate school and aims to increase student diversity in health-related careers in NC.
