Tahrir Bodyguard launches free self-defense training for women

Nevine El Shabrawy’s article Tahrir Bodyguard launches free self-defense training for women, discusses how Tahir Bodyguard has launched a campaign of free self-defense lessons for women protesters in Tahrir square, as well as the city of Cairo as a whole. The lessons took place at the Samia Allouba center in Maadi last week. Thirty women participated in learning several techniques that allow them to gain control without the need for a lot of physical strength. They were also encouraged to carry themselves with confidence, to lessen their visible vulnerability to potential attackers. Representatives from Tahrir Bodyguard stated that women have the right to protest, so they will do all they can to protect them and help them protect themselves. Aside from providing the self-defense training, the organization is also present in the square pulling women out when it gets violent and monitoring and warding off potential attackers .

Women interested in the self-defense training can sign up by emailing tahrir.bodyguard@gmail.com

You can also follow the organization at their Twitter for more information.
