What That Game of Thrones Scene Says About Rape Culture This link discusses how the most recent episode of Game of Thrones seems to endorse the US’s current rape culture. It also helps one understand how US media influences other industrialized countries toward such permissive concepts of domination and power over women. In my analysis of this article and subsequent video clip of the actual rape scene, I note how media depicts rape as an act that women will eventually consent to. That is the very issue we face everyday, women are taught not to be raped rather than men being taught not to use rape as a method of control and punishment. In the video clip the female character has just buried the son she conceived out of incest with her brother, he attempts to console her with a kiss but she does not reciprocate the emotion.What happens next is up for discussion but I believe you all can form your own opinions about what really happens. This depiction of “consensual sex” as the director calls it seems to undermine the severity and reality of rape within our current social structure.Below is the video clip and another analysis of the episode.
