Mary McGrory was a journalist in a time when women were an extreme minority in the field of journalism. John Norris, who wrote a biography on McGrory, shows some of the sexist attitudes that McGrory routinely faced. Some of McGrory’s coworkers feared that she would not be available as she might establish her marital life and leave journalism altogether. McGrory faced battles of underpay compared to male journalists, and even former President Lyndon Johnson confessed his feelings to McGrory quite bluntly.
