First and foremost, this article evaluates the evolution of Title IX in regards to how it is applied to college campus sexual harassment and sexual assault. Statistics revolving around sexual assault on college campuses differ greatly depending on how sexual assault is defined, but the product remains the same : sexual assault on college campuses is a very real and dire social issue that needs to be addressed.
Differing studies show that a range of 25%-28.5% of women and roughly 14% of men on college campuses are found to have been sexual assaulted. Even more frightening is that roughly 81% of students have reported that they experienced some type of sexual harassment during their time as a college student.Because we live in the age of mass media, this important issue is no longer being hidden. This misconduct is no longer a private struggle; instead it is a nationwide problem where the entire nation is watching how things unfold. The author states that Title IX is meant to protect while pursuing their education, ensuring that there be no discrimination based on sex.
