I tried to Befriend Nikolas Cruz

Recently there has been a lot of debate on what to do about gun control. The right has come up with many “ideas” to avoid legislation like giving students rocks, clear backpacks, or the newest one, be nicer to people so they don’t shoot you. The article below was written by a student who knew Nikolas Cruz and the encounters she had with him. She mentions how he pelted an apple at her during lunch. She describes him staring at her chest and yelling curse words as him while she attempted to tutor him.  She discusses how she went into it with an open mind, but was very uncomfortable to be alone with him.

This article does not mean that we should not be nice to others. I believe it is very important to be nice to everyone you come into contact with; however, it should not be up to the students to stop school shootings. That is the main point of the article. Why are students the ones who are being held responsible for the actions of terrorists? Politicians who are in the pocket of the NRA are the ones coming up with these nonsense plans that completely ignore the safety of our nations youth.

This problem is not a recent phenomena, though it seems that way. In 2007 we had the Virginia Tech shooting, since then way too many deaths from gun violence have occurred. We pay taxes so our government could protect us, not to tell us to throw flowers at murderers. Who is a snowflake now?
