Men for Women’s Rights: Young SRHR leaders Show the Way

In this article, two young men are highlighted for their work in the Southeast Asia and Africa areas with trying to promote sexual health and talk about reproductive health issues. These young men are working very hard to combat cultural practices that are very dangerous for women, specifically female genital mutilation. Their main goal is to teach the children of these regions about safe sex practices, but they also want to promote respect and support for women in their message. I chose this article because it ties in with our readings of the “Some Men” book and shows the importance of men to the women’s equality movement, especially in countries where women’s voices are almost nonexistent.

What challenges do you think that these men face while working in countries that do not value women or consider them to be equals?
