Many have heard the news about the abortion ban happening in Texas. What does this mean for women? Texas law makers passed a law that bans abortion starting at six weeks, when they believe there is cardiac activity. There are many objections to this new law, and some say that the new law is unconstitutional. Banning abortion at six weeks does not give the expecting mother even enough time to learn about the pregnancy and make an informed decision on whether she would like an abortion. This is a fight against women’s reproductive rights. Abortion is a part of healthcare that should be between the mother and her physician. This is also a fight against women of color and immigrant women as well. Statistics show that black women have far more complications that sometimes end fatally. Immigrant women also have a hard time getting proper healthcare due to low income. Banning these abortions will not stop abortions, but it will stop safe abortions.
