Human Sex Trafficking in the French Quarter

I visited New Orleans the first time with the Sociology Department to attend a conference.  While it was a great trip I was shocked at my uneasiness walking around the French Quarter.  Since we have been reading Half the Sky I for some reason decided to start searching “sex trafficking in the French Quarter.”  Turns out that I found a surprising number of reports.

It is a huge tourist area and there have been cases of women who have gone missing.  In addition, the area preys on outlying poverty stricken areas.  It is very eye opening to the events that go on here in the U.S. under our own noses.

The report in this link does not give much detail.  I have been following up on it to see if new information is released.
So far, no luck.  I think this also exemplifies the things that are reported on in detail and the things that are not.
