Forever 21 a popular retail-clothing store is having a law suit filed against them after one of their stores in Brooklyn NY, harassed and discriminated an employer, after she under went a sex change. The former employer was Aleixa Dasklakis had worked in the store for almost 4 years but was terminated from her position because she was a transgender woman. She made claims that her supervisor called her “disgusting” and a “hot mess.” In April, Alexia filed the lawsuit alleging her supervisor’s maltreatment was based on her gender identity. At the time when the article was released Forever 21 had not yet filed an answer to the complaint. Transgender individuals lack explicit protection against employment discrimination under federal law. According to the article, “President Obama and the Department of Justice and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are taking steps towards enhancing protections for transgender individuals in the work place.” With that being said this article was published before the recent release of Caitlyn Jenner sex change. That however drew a lot of media and news attention. So my question is why is discrimination so bad towards transgender individuals? Is it stereotypical views?
