Why Acid Attacks On Women Are Still Happening, And What Must Be Done To Stop Them
This is an article about acid throwing on Indian women, with a few stories from some of the women who were victims. It starts with a story about a young woman whose husband threw acid on her for being “too beautiful”. It goes on to tell the stories of a few others ad explains how the justice system isn’t doing anything to stop them. They explain how expensive all the corrective surgeries can be and how little compensation the victims are given. The article also hits on how the acid is supposed to be being controlled, but isn’t.
I have always been interested by acid throwing because it is such a harsh crime. It interests me because this is seen all the time in India, but not in America. Why? Do you think it is because our values are so much different, or cultures? Obviously they don’t think it is okay if they are making laws about it, but they aren’t enforcing it, or helping the victims. Just like they aren’t doing anything about domestic violence, they are also letting this slide (most of the time). Make sure you go through the pictures at the end to see exactly how much damage is done.
