In order to protect sex workers’ rights, Amnesty International recently advocated the “decriminalization of consensual sex work.” According to the rights group, this will address some of harms which include “extortion, physical and sexual abuse, harassment” as well as other abuses. After consultation and discussion, the group decided that voting for the legalization was better than deeming it illegal in order to protect the basic human rights of those who are involved in sex work. While Amnesty International does not support human trafficking, they feel that the decriminalization will at least prevent some of the abuses that sex workers may face on a day to day basis.
