Parents as well as five other World of Life Church members physically beat two children in order for the children to confess their sins. The result was the death of one of their sons, while the other son is hospitalized. The focus of the case is on the parents, yet this article mainly focuses on the mother. The mother, Deborah Leonard, said that she “felt helpless” and her lawyer has defended her reasoning. Her lawyer said, “This woman is so meek and timid, she didn’t have the temerity to stand up to them and say, ‘You’re not punishing my kid. You’re not doing this.” All that are involved have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
