Sex as Slavery? Understanding Private Wrongs

Brysk contends that sex trafficking is actually “white slavery” because thousands of women and children from Eastern Europe are sent to the US for the sole purpose of being sex slaves to some physically abusive Americans. She compares the plight of sex slaves to the slavery of ancient Hebrew and African Americans, but unlike ancient Hebrew and African American slavery, sex trafficking is modern and underground (Brysk 2011:266).
