In the Driving Seat

A non-profit organization in India has started a program where low-income females, living in the slums of major cities are getting trained to become cab drivers. Female taxi drivers are very uncommon, especially in India, with the highest rate of sexual assault of women in a public place in the world. The program spends over a year to prepare these women to become commercial drivers, teaching them how to drive, speak English, and self-defense.
Although this seems like a really good idea to me, the organizations theory of putting more females on the road to stopping sexual assault seems risky. To me they could be right, but it may go the wrong way and cause more sexual assaults.
