John Kasich, presidential hopeful, addressed a crowd of college students during a Town Hall meeting in Watertown, New York. The question was posed: “What are you going to do in office as president to help me feel safer and more secure regarding sexual violence, harassment, and rape?” Kasich responded by first mentioning the need to report sexual assaults and have rape kits done and the need for college students to be aware of these methods available to them. He then followed up this statement by telling women to avoid parties where alcohol would be served.
In my own personal feelings, while alcohol does increase the likelihood that sexual assaults may occur, women do not need to avoid alcohol to avoid being raped. What are your thoughts?
